Behind The Altered Rose

Welcome!

I'm Hazel, the creative mind behind The Altered Rose, a furniture restoration and alteration company.

It all started over a decade ago with a very old dutch bike that I named ‘Pearl’. The idea of creating something unique and special out of something old just ‘fit’. It gave me a focus away from my fast paced career in Hotels. I became… a project girl!

My mother was very DIY and helped along the way and taught me a lot with every project I tackled.

After the loss of Mum, it was time to slow down and The Altered Rose was officially founded in May ‘21 in a garage in Papamoa. Now with a much larger workspace in Omanawa, I have the luxury of working on commissions and creative pieces in unison.

I take a great amount of pride and joy in putting love and life back into solid wood furniture. I feel honored every time I am trusted with a special commission to restore or alter.

If you’d like to hear more about it check out the Local Focus article with The NZ Herald.
